Wijnaldum hints that Mourinho’s absence will make match easier on the eye

Gini Wijnaldum thinks Manchester United will pose a much better test than they did in December, when we battered them 3-1 at Anfield.

On that day, Jose Mourinho’s outfit were all over the shop and it should have been a far more convincing scoreline, even though we had to rely on late goals from Xherdan Shaqiri.

Since the Portuguese’s sacking, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has taken over and done brilliantly, in short.

He’s revitalised Paul Pogba and turned a previously useless attack into a vibrant one.

As a result, United fans will demand an offensive style against Liverpool, as under Mourinho, they only ever parked the bus.

Gini agrees.

“I think it is going to be a real big change [from the game in December],” Gini told the official website.

“Since the new manager came in there is a new flow, they played good games and have won a lot and that is building confidence in the team.

“It’s also a home game for them so they will have a lot of confidence as they don’t have the problems they had before.

“It is going to be a difficult game but I’m looking forward to it. I think for them we come at a good moment but we’re also doing well so it is going to be a nice game to watch.”

It’ll be interesting to see just how attacking United set out… In many ways, this could actually benefit Liverpool – whose attackers thrive with room in behind and during counter-attacks.

Our defenders though will have to be on top, top form. Thankfully, Virgil van Dijk is fit again and will come in to partner Joel Matip, allowing Fabinho to be restored to the midfield.
