Virgil van Dijk was faultless against Manchester United yesterday.

He returned from suspension having missed the Bayern Munich tie and put in a 90 minutes without mistake.

The Dutchman was up against an injured Marcus Rashford, which made his life easier, but the home side barely threatened – largely thanks to the composure van Dijk and Joel Matip had in defence.

The tweet below shows van Dijk’s stats from Old Trafford, as well as a declaration that is absolutely spot on:

“Even when Liverpool aren’t at their best, van Dijk usually is. A great performance against a powerful, aerially adept opponent.”

In January, our defence began to waver, but in our past three games we’ve not conceded and only let in an unlucky strike to West Ham the match before.

Sadly, with the midfield playing well and the backline solid – the front-three have lost their way!

Mo Salah has one in five, while Roberto Firmino limped off the field yesterday and Sadio Mane is either very good or very bad.

They’re world-class operators, but need to start clicking – and soon. Versus Watford on Wednesday evening would be a good time to start.
