Jürgen Klopp offers key press conference updates ahead of Burnley match

Ahead of a crucial home game for us on Sunday against Burnley, Jürgen Klopp has offered his thoughts at his pre-match press conference.

We’re coming into this one with some odd, yet heartening, recent results. We’ve not scored as many as we would have liked, but we’ve also kept five clean sheets in a row. Equally, the 5-0 mauling of Watford demonstrates how we’ve still got the potential for that menace going forward.

Speaking to journalists at Melwood, the German boss said: “Luckily we don’t have to change much. The plan is still to win football games and that is difficult enough.”

“We will know the City result before we start our game but we won’t make a big fuss about it because we a re just fighting for the top spot in the league and it’s important to be optimistic and excited,” he added.

“Our only problem this week is Burnley and that’s enough – we have to be really good to beat this team, Dyche is doing an amazing job perhaps with not the best circumstances in the league.

“We have prepared for the fact it will be tough.”

Speaking about the threat that Sean Dyche’s men offer, Klopp suggested that: “The game for us at Turf Moor is not important as it was three months ago. When they play five at the back it doesn’t work out 100% if I am correct so we expect 4-4-2.”

“Barnes is good in the air and gets in behind and they are good on the wings.

“Crosses we should expect. They also don’t have majority of possession in games so we need to be creative and patient.

“It will be difficult – they really fight and are highly motivated. When you watch their last three or four games you give respect – they beat Tottenham.

“I’m sure they’re looking forward to this game.”

Burnley may very well be looking forward to this game, but so are we. The Clarets have got a pretty poor recent record against us. Since December 2014, we’ve won five, draw one, and lost one. Last time out, we beat them 3-1 at Turf Moor in December.

As the boss said, “Burnley are very physical, quick transitions and counter attacks” but those are descriptions just as applicable to us – if not more so.

It won’t be a walk in the park, but the smart money is on a very valuable win for us and three more points up on the board.
