The mega-contract LFC set to award van Dijk to keep him at Anfield for life

Liverpool are set to reward Virgil van Dijk with a big contract extension and wage increase, following his jaw-dropping performances since signing in January 2018.

According the Mirror, Liverpool are already in discussions to fend off potential interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid.

As a club, we’ve made a clever habit recently of tying our best players down for the peak years of their careers – meaning that even if they do choose to leave – it’ll only be for enormous money.

Van Dijk is currently on £124,658/week, after getting a £6m signing-on fee when his transfer from Southampton was concluded.

But the new deal will be worth £200k/week and bring him in line with the club’s highest earner, Mo Salah.

The Mirror also state that the Dutchman will receive a £5m up-front payment for penning an extension, which is not a bad bonus after 14 months at a new company!

Liverpool though would quite simply not be challenging for the Premier League without him. In our opinion, he’s the best defender on the planet by some distance – and most observers are beginning to agree following the decline of Sergio Ramos.
