LFC goalkeeper reacts to disgusting racist attack: ‘Your support means everything’

This story really does take the shine off the weekend’s victory over Burnley, sadly.

It’s been reported that our young goalkeeper Shamal George was the victim of a racially motivated attack on Saturday night, outside the Red Door Bar in the city.

The Guardian claim he and his brother were left with cuts and bruises after being repeatedly punched in the street.

The 21-year-old took to Twitter with this message, thanking fans for the love he’s been shown since the horrible incident.

A club spokesperson said: “Liverpool Football Club is shocked and appalled that Shamal and a family member have been subjected to such a terrible ordeal. As a club, we will offer Shamal and his family any support that they require.

“The matter is now in the hands of Merseyside Police and we will defer all inquiries to them. We would also urge anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

“Liverpool Football Club will make no further comment until it is appropriate to do so and, in the meantime, we would ask that Shamal and his family have their privacy respected.”

For stuff like this to be still be happening in 2019 makes us sick, to be honest.

George is barely out of his teens – was born in the Wirral – and by all accounts – is a lovely young lad and a talented footballer.

We don’t know the full details, nor do we wish to speculate on them, but we hope the police find the perpetrators and George is given all the support and time he needs.

It says a lot about the state of the country right now; it really does.
