It seems like Manchester City will be banned from signing players for two transfer windows, just like Chelsea were last month.
A report in the Independent suggests this is the expected punishment our rivals will face for ‘breaking rules related to the protection of youth players and third-party ownership,’ so has nothing to do with the ongoing investigation into City’s Financial Fair Play wrongdoings.

That separate investigation could see City banned from the Champions League by UEFA, for example, says the Independent.
To be fair, banning City from signing players isn’t really much of a punishment. They already have the most expensively assembled squad in football history – full of world-class young players – so two windows without being able to bring someone in won’t derail their progress.
Every position they have is well-stocked with classy performers – and there’s superb talents in he youth team coming through as well.
Still, the much more significant look into City’s financial doping from FIFA, UEFA and the Premier League could see a more devastating punishment.
It’s not really for us to speculate – but we hope any cheating is punished properly.
