Good news: Jurgen Klopp confirms Joe Gomez’s return date

Posted by

Jurgen Klopp says Joe Gomez will return from injury after the international break, and it is possible that he could play again before the end of March.

Gomez has done a lot of fitness work already as part of his rehabilitation from a knee fracture, so is not expected to take an extended period of time to be ready for action once he returns to full training.

He is still some way off being match fit, but the international break will offer a chance to build on that ahead of a return in a couple of weeks.

Klopp said, via the Daily Mirror: “We expect him to be back after the international break – in full training, for sure, and then we will see how long it takes.”

Gomez is likely to feature for the U23s, as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain did, as he makes his return, although as it stands, Neil Critchley’s side have very few matches over the next few weeks. They are not scheduled to play again until April 8 against Chelsea at Anfield.

It will be a big boost for the Reds to have Gomez back available. As well as Joel Matip has done in recent weeks, Gomez is a class above the Cameroonian and would return at the perfect time to make a real difference in the run-in.
