ESPN break news of Coutinho price-tag, with clubs expressing interest already

Barcelona have set a price of £90m for Coutinho, should any potential suitor want the Brazilian superstar this summer.

This is according to a report by ESPN, who have got the football world talking in the process.

Liverpool sold him for a fee that could rise to £142m if add-ons are activated, but the whole sum will be substantially less than that if he does indeed transfer away from Camp Nou at the end of this season…

ESPN state that £90m would be enough for Barca to cut their losses, although the player wants to stay and fight for his future.

James Pearce claimed on a podcast that this kind of sum wouldn’t interest Liverpool, who are happy with the current options at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal.

And you can kind of see why… We did exceptionally to get £142m for Phil, but the entirety of the fee would be closer to £105m if we signed him back – meaning they’d have borrowed him for 18 months at £15m – not having to pay for their mistake.

If the price dropped way below £90m, EOTK would love a return to be considered.

There’s a good chance we’ll come up against Coutinho this season in the Champions League, which adds another element to this story. We have to beat FC Porto and Barca must overcome Manchester United in the Champions League quarters to set up the mouthwatering tie.

How would he be received at Anfield, though?
