Liverpool among clubs monitoring exciting Portuguese attacker

Liverpool are among three Premier League clubs reportedly interested in Benfica winger Joao Filipe, known as Jota, according to the Telegraph.

Arsenal, Spurs and Bayern Munich are also said to be interested in the young forward who has managed eight goals and seven assists this season.

Jota has a £25.7million release clause in his contract and Spurs seem the most keen – the Londoners sent scouts to watch Benfica’s Europa League clash with Dyanmo Zagreb last week.

An O Jogo report also claims that Benfica are in the process of renewing Jota’s contract, as the club hopes to make sure they don’t lose one of their star assets on the cheap.

Jota is a versatile forward who can offer some squad rotation to Sadio Mane; the Portuguese winger can be deployed on the left-hand side and as a central striker.

Similarly to Phil Coutinho – Jota likes to cut inside and attempt shots from range. The attacker is strong using both feet so it wouldn’t be daft to imagine he could play anywhere across our front three.

Jota finished as joint top-scorer with five goals when Portugal won the U19s European Championships last summer and was also named in the team of the tournament.
