Despite his history with Manchester United, Memphis Depay has been linked with a move to Liverpool by former Arsenal player Robert Pires.
Jurgen Klopp can boast about having one of the best attacking trios in the world in Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Bobby Firmino, but the German manager could use a bit more depth.
Pires reckons Memphis is the answer and thinks Klopp should reunite him with Gini Wijnaldum and Virgil van Dijk at Anfield this summer.
“He perhaps feels he wasn’t given a chance to perform and earn the right to stay longer considering he was so young and showed glimpses of undoubted potential.
“Depay might want to return to Manchester United or he might be motivated to prove them wrong by performing for one of their rivals in the Premier League.”
The Dutchman scored twice and set up two in his country’s 4-0 victory over Belarus on Thursday – assisting Wijnaldum and van Dijk in the process.
Depay endured a miserable two years at United, scoring just two goals in that time and starting only once in his second season at Old Trafford.
He’s been on fire for Lyon though; the forward has managed 35 goals in 106 appearances for the French side. He can also play centrally and may be exactly what Liverpool need.
Apparently a bid of £45million could be enough to prize the Dutchman from the Ligue 1 club. Would you take him?
