Klopp shows his class in outlook on Spurs’ transfer activity

Ahead of the mammoth meeting this Sunday, Jürgen Klopp offered his opinion on Tottenham Hotspur’s close-fisted approach to new signings.

“In England, the country of transfers, if you don’t do transfers then that’s a really big headline,” Klopp told Sky Sports Premier League.

“I’m sure Mauricio Pochettino would have loved to have added but the players, but the first team of Tottenham is difficult to improve.

“From that point of view, if you have the right team together, you don’t have to be too busy in the transfer market. But the players you have you can improve as well. Maybe they are better than the boy you wanted to buy.

“I respect their way a lot. At the end we all have to make our own decisions. I don’t know why they did it, but most of the time if you don’t make transfers it is because of money.”

Spurs’ lack of activity in the transfer market last summer saw them make Premier League history by becoming the first team not to make a signing during that window since it came into play in 2003.

Although we bought Alisson for club-record £67 million as part of a £120 million outlay on new players, Klopp’s admiration for Spurs’ business seems to be part of his philosophy of coaching existing talent rather than spending for spending’s sake.

The German also suggested that, “if you look at their new stadium you might see where the money is. They had to pay the stadium by themselves right? Nobody knows? So you have to save a little bit of money.

“There’s so many positive things you could say about Mauricio Pochettino – the whole club looks settled.”

Klopp always appears as a voice of reason in a footballing world so caught up in the drama of greed and spitefulness.

Although his sportsmanship is itself commendable, we’re much more concerned with the actual business being done on the pitch. Mind games or not, the only thing we’re looking to procure is another three points.
