Former Celtic star Marc Wilson thinks Steven Gerrard, Liverpool’s legendary former captain, is at fault for Rangers’ shocking disciplinary record.
This season, the Gers have picked up 11 red cards, which is a truly ridiculous amount, in fairness.
During the Old Firm Derby at the weekend, Alvaro Morelos picked up his fifth red of the season – a farcical number for an individual – while Ryan Kent got away with pushing Scott Brown in the throat.

Wilson thinks Gerrard’s attitude is problematic and explains the situation.
“Perhaps that’s where Rangers’ disciplinary problems are coming from,” Wilson told Football Scotland.
“If Steven Gerrard, the manager, thinks that that isn’t violent conduct and that’s acceptable and they have a version of events that are totally different to what everybody else sees then I would say that is a problem.
“The amount of times that Morelos has been involved in incidents and certain things have been appealed, it must come from the manager.
“If he says that’s okay to do then that’s astonishing. You need to defend your player, but it’s there in black and white.
“Still pictures you can get an idea and it’s the wrong impression, but when it’s live TV pictures and everybody sees it – I’m hugely surprised at Steven Gerrard.”
11 reds is obviously too much for any one club in a single campaign.
Liverpool’s last one was way back in 2017, when Joe Gomez got two yellows against Sevilla. The time before was Sadio Mane’s infamous accidental high boot on Ederson between Manchester City’s sticks.
Since Jurgen Klopp took charge, we’ve only had five reds in total – and are one of the sides with the best discipline in Europe.
This is partly because we’re usually the ones doing the attacking, of course.
One day, Gerrard may take the reigns at Anfield. It’s for this reason we’re so glad he’s learning his trade elsewhere. When he eventually is ready for the Liverpool job, he’ll be a more refined and learned boss.
But for now, we’re very happy with Klopp!
