Salah surpasses fastest to 50 goals record by joining PL Liverpool legends

Mo Salah’s latest goal – firing the ball between two Southampton defenders after a searing, 50-yard breakaway – was his 50th goal in 69 appearances.

By now, you all know that he’s achieved the impressive feat of becoming the fastest Liverpool player to reach that milestone (I mean, he had been waiting for it for nine games).

By reaching his half-century for the Reds, Salah has also joined an exclusive club at Anfield that contains just eight members now he is in their company.

The 26-year-old joins the elite ranks of an Anfield septet who have scored 50 or more Premier League goals for the Reds: Robbie Fowler (128), Steven Gerrard (120), Michael Owen (118), Luis Suárez (69), Fernando Torres (65), Dirk Kuyt (51), Daniel Sturridge (50).

That list reads like a who’s who of Liverpool goalscoring legends and it’s only right that Mohamed Salah etches his name in the club’s folklore alongside them.

Together with Suárez and Owen, Salah is the only other Liverpool player to have won the Premier League Player of the Year award following an unbelievable debut campaign last season.

It was in the 2017-18 season that he announced himself as a truly world-class player, netting 44 goals in his maiden campaign.

Having beaten Torres’ record of fastest to 50 – and El Niño’s 33 goals in a debut season – his next target will be to overtake the madrileño in goals scored. It’s fair to say that he’ll probably beat Kuyt’s record before the season is through.

The Egyptian king also picks up bronze for 50 goals scored for a single club. It’s a crime to mention it, but that dry spell prevented him from knocking Alan Shearer from top spot – just four games off!

With Porto in the Champions League coming up on Tuesday, Liverpool are next in league action against Chelsea on 14th April. Let’s hope Salah can add to his half-century against his old club!
