Jordan Henderson has been playing out of position since the start of the 2016/17 season.
The skipper has been deployed by Jurgen Klopp as a no.6 – a player whose job is to hold the base of the midfield, pass simply and cover for those in front of him.

He’s done it well – but it was never where Hendo made his name – at either Sunderland or during his better seasons at Liverpool under Brendan Rodgers.
He was a box-to-box midfielder with energy, the odd goal and an eye for a telling pass!
Tonight v FC Porto, he’s been used ahead of Fabinho and done extraordinarily well.
Hendo made our second goal with a delicious pass to Trent Alexander-Arnold, who crossed to Roberto Firmino to tap in – and made another for Sadio Mane – who was ruled just offside.
Fans on Twitter were delighted by what they saw, with many asking why he’s not been used as a no.8 a little more under Klopp!

Henderson thriving in a more advanced role is no surprise. Last time he played a full season in that position (14/15) he contributed 21 goals/assists.

Jordan Henderson channelling his inner Dimitar Berbatov there. Plucks a TAA pass out the sky and releases Firmino, whose touch is heavy.
