Liverpool ruled out as summer destination for Man United star

Juan Mata’s contract at Manchester United is up at the end of the season and if the club’s new offer isn’t accepted by the midfielder, he’ll be free to move on.

Speaking about his son’s options in the summer, the Spaniard’s father has ruled out Liverpool and Man City as possible destinations.

Manchester United have offered to renew us, we are very happy,” he told Cadena SER – as per TeamTalkBut there are proposals from Champions League teams.

Spain, maybe, but today is not the day to talk, it is not yet decided. [City] would not be the ideal option. There are two options that do not [appeal] … Liverpool and City.

We have to respect the Manchester United fans, he is held very dear here.”

I’m sure Reds fans will be just as surprised by this news as City and United supporters. It’s interesting though that Arsenal and Spurs haven’t been ruled out.

Since I’m picking at words here – it’s intriguing that he wouldn’t join us because he’s “held very dear” at United, as if Chelsea fans didn’t adore him before he moved up north.

I know he’s got very little to do with us, but it’d be nice to see Mata re-join Valencia. I enjoyed watching him there and was excited when we was linked with a move to Anfield a few years ago.
