What annoyed Klopp about Liverpool’s FC Porto performance

Jurgen Klopp was pleased with Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over FC Porto last night in the Champions League, but thinks there’s room for improvement.

We started the game brilliantly, and after Roberto Firmino got our second goal around the half hour mark, it looked like we were going to waltz to a thrashing.

But a two goal lead without an away goal conceded is a decent result and makes us heavy favourites to progress to a semi-final with either Barcelona or Manchester United.

Klopp reckons we’ll need to give less fouls away in dangerous areas next week – as well as allowing less breaks through the middle – which could have led to Porto scoring if Moussa Marega had his shooting boots on.

“We gave a few too many set pieces away,” Klopp said, cited in the Express.

“I think Porto score about 40% of their goals from set pieces.

“We also saw one or two counter attacks, but the rest of the game we played really well.

“We lost a little bit of direction in the second half, but there’s nothing to criticise, 2-0 is a very, very good result.

“We knew we had to play the second game and we cannot decide the tie tonight, so now we have to go there and fight again.”

All our attention now though lies on Sunday’s Chelsea game.

The Blues travel to Anfield with Eden Hazard in destructive form and we’ll need to be at our best to clinch a vital three points.

Manchester City face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on the same day in what could be a pivotal few hours in the Premier League title race.
