Former Chelsea player Jason Cundy has ripped into a Blues fan who called up talkSPORT to defend a racist chant about Liverpool star Mo Salah.
For context: a small group of supporters have been filmed singing a song in which they seem to describe the Egyptian forward as a “bomber”.
Both Chelsea and Liverpool have issued strong statements condemning the people involved, with the London-based club calling the group an “embarrassment”.
Just when things appeared as if they couldn’t get any more ignorant, a Blues fan called up talkSPORT to defend the chant that was sung by the fans who may very well face a stadium ban.
Matthew, a Chelsea fan who called up the radio station last night, could not understand why the chant was being considered offensive. “Was it racist? No. Was it prejudice? Maybe,” he told Jason Cundy and Andy Goldstein.
“You can’t be this outraged about a song in a pub. It’s nothing to do with football.” “I’m disgusted by it and I’m disgusted with you as well. The club have made a statement,” Cundy said.
“You’ve phoned up here and tried to defend them. I’m embarrassed for him. He’s defending what they’ve said, saying it isn’t that bad.
“This is about an ex-Chelsea player, had he still been at Chelsea, they’d be cheering him.”
