Warnock offers frank view on Liverpool’s spending habits; hopes to avoid ‘a battering’

Neil Warnock doesn’t sound too confident ahead of Liverpool’s visit this weekend in the Premier League.

Cardiff City have failed to collect a single point against any of the ‘top six’ opposition this season, and the Reds aren’t just any of the ‘top six’.

We realise the challenge, they’ve shown this season that they can beat anyone on a good day,Warnock is quoted as saying by BT Sport.

We just want to give a good performance and not get a battering really. We can work all week, but if we freeze and make a mistake early on we may as well go home.”

The Cardiff manager isn’t shy of sharing his true thoughts – and he’s taken aim at our spending habits. “They will just pick you off. That’s what you get with quality players.

“When you realise our wage bill is £11million less than what they spent on agents’ fees, I think it puts it in perspective what we’re up against.”

The issue isn’t with how much we’ve spent. It’s all relative; we’re a massive club and we really should focus on net spent when talking about this type of stuff.

It’s a bit of a cheap shot – pardon the pun – from Warnock as we’re hardly in a similar position as the relegation-threatened Cardiff (but that may be the point he’s making)!

Now let’s prove that on the field.
