Liverpool’s top transfer rumours rated in terms of likelihood

The rumour mill never stops and there’s been some stories circulating that suggest Liverpool are interested in bringing in some new talent – and a suggestion we may move on others.

We’ve taken a look at some of our most read articles this week and have compiled a list of five popular transfer rumours and will rate them on the likelihood of them actually happening.

First up is Nicolas Pepe.

The winger has been subject to interest from a host of clubs – including Chelsea and Arsenal – and the Reds have now reportedly thrown their hat into the ring.

The Lille star told French TV in 2017 that Chelsea are the only club in England that he’d play for. The lad had only just turned 21 when he said this and thing’s can change – not to mention the Blues’ transfer ban.

Pepe is versatile, which is something that Jurgen Klopp likes in a player, but I just don’t see this one happening. He is too good to sit on our bench; unless we move someone on, I’d expect a move to Arsenal to be more likely.

Next up is James Milner.

Yorkshire’s answer to Luis Figo is now 33-years-old and has only one year remaining on his Liverpool contract. With no talk of an extension in sight, some Leeds United fans seem to think the midfielder is going home.

This one makes a lot of sense, but not for now, for this time next year – Milner arrived at Anfield on a free and I think he may leave in a similar fashion.

There’s no basis to this transfer rumour; there’s been no agents talking, nothing, it just makes a great deal of sense.

3/5 – but for summer 2020.

Next is Everton Soares.

The Gremio forward has recently been linked with a move to Liverpool after being heavily tipped to join up with a host of fellow Brazilian internationals at AC Milan.

Everton is a versatile striker, able to play on the left wing or straight down the middle, like Divock Origi, but something just doesn’t seem right about this one.

In terms of ability, he’s good enough to serve as a back-up for Bobby Firmino but, it doesn’t seem as if he’d offer more than what Origi does at the moment.

This one stinks of agent chat – I’d bet this is a move to force Milan into sewing up a deal as soon as possible.

Second from last, it’s Nabil Fekir.

It feels like it’s been an age since we first heard of the Reds’ interest in the Frenchman, but his latest move – to sack his agent – has sparked a return of the rumours once again.

There’s no denying it: Liverpool were definitely close to signing Fekir last summer, but the deal fell apart in the 11th hour and he didn’t make the move.

Reports conflict but it seems the reason was a concern the club’s medical staff had with the forward’s injury record. If that’s the case, I can’t see the Reds changing their minds.

That being said, there’s no smoke without fire and a move to the Premier League seems likely for the star. Never say never.

2/5

Last up is Timo Werner.

The German international is probably 2019’s answer to Fekir in terms of the sheer volume of reports circulating around the player potentially moving to Anfield.

The RB Leipzig star is considered to be a top target for Liverpool, according to the Mirror, and with 14 goals and five assists in the Bundesliga this season it’s not hard to see why.

Judging by the calibre of players we’re being linked with, Liverpool seem to be in the market for a new forward; someone to fill in for Bobby and maybe push our number nine for his speck in the starting eleven.

Werner certainly fits that profile but a position on the bench is unlikely to be what he wants from his next move – that being said, Klopp doesn’t often stick to a rigid eleven players.
