Fowler set to take on new managerial challenge in Australia’s A-League

Kop legend Robbie Fowler is set to be annouced as the new manager of A-league side Brisbane Roar tomorrow, the Daily Mail reports.

The Scouser, who previously spent two seasons in Australia with North Queensland Fury and Perth Glory, will be hoping to put his knowledge of Australian football into practice in his new role.

There were months of speculation as to who whould take over at Brisbane Roar after previous incumbent John Aloisi unexpectedly left his post at the helm.

Fowler underwent considerable interviewing but eventually saw off a number of candidates for the managerial role.

As a high-profile appointment, the 44-year-old will bring in a lot of attention for the A-league side – an increased awareness that will help to bring in new players and generate media and sponsorship interest.

Robbie is an inexperienced coach, however, having only enjoyed a short stint as player-manager at Muangthong United in Thailand in 2012.

But Fowler is finally ready to take on the challenge of being a manager, having previously applied for the Leeds job back in 2014 and Bristol Rovers in 2018.

The hope is that he can translate his talents on the pitch to the skill required of him on the sidelines. Roar have not had the best of seasons, and look to be finishing in ninth with only 18 points from 26 games.
