Atletico Madrid want LFC midfielder as Rodri replacement; Edwards slaps hefty price-tag on

There’s a transfer story we actually find quite interesting that’s broken today, which we imagine will be a serious anomaly in the summer months!

According to the Telegraph, Manchester City want Atletico Madrid’s Spanish midfielder Rodri as an option for next season, and are happy to pay £60m to acquire him once the window opens.

And ESPN‘s German correspondent Stephan Uersfeld reckons Diego Simeone is eyeing our very own Marko Grujic as a replacement…

The 23-year-old Serb is enjoying his loan spell at Hertha Berlin, becoming an automatic starter under Pal Dardai, the manager who has described Grujic as the best player he’s ever worked with [Bundesliga.com].

In total, Grujic has made 19 appearances in the German top flight, scoring four goals, registering an assist and helping his side to mid-table – where they’ll likely finish.

However, with Liverpool’s own midfield currently very well stocked, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain set to return and offer another high level option for Jurgen Klopp, Grujic’s long-term Anfield future is by no means guaranteed.

Michael Edwards though will not give Grujic up cheaply, and according to the ESPN report, Liverpool want £34.6m for the Serbia international, which would make him our fifth most expensive ever sale behind Coutinho, Luis Suarez, Fernando Torres and Raheem Sterling.

Considering what those four names did at Liverpool, it would be a remarkable piece of business by the club to recoup that much for someone who has done nothing for our first-team and doesn’t really fit into the manager’s plans.

We’ll watch this space with interest.
