‘Be careful…’ Salah warns van Dijk over media treatment following POTY award

Posted by

Last night, Virgil van Dijk collected the PFA Player of the Year award – one year after Mo Salah received the gong for his 32 goal/11 assist debut Premier League season.

Van Dijk becomes the first defender since John Terry in 2004/05 to win the award and only the second this century.

Tongue in cheek, Salah took to Instagram to not only congratulate Liverpool/s no.4 but also warn him about expectations going forward.

“Be careful… Don’t win all the awards this year. otherwise you know what will happen next year!” said Salah – a clear dig at the media who have criticised him this season despite the fact he’s the top scorer in the division with 21 goals.

Salah’s goals alone earned Liverpool 24 points this season, which is twice as much as any other single player in the top flight.

His admission from even the PFA POTY shortlist and subsequent Team of the Year is literally absurd – so we’re not surprised the Egyptian thinks he’s a victim of his own success.

Let’s hope he can show the watching world on Wednesday evening just how superb a footballer he really is.
