You’d have forgiven Cesc Fabregas, a Barcelona native and former opponent of Liverpool on countless occasions, to have wallowed in his ex-side’s victory last night.
But the Spaniard, now at AS Monaco, had a very fair take on the match, which Liverpool somehow lost 3-0 thanks to goals from Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi, whose brace in the second-half will serve as an extremely harsh lesson in taking your chances on the big stage.
According to Cesc, Jurgen Klopp’s side put in an ‘amazing performance,’ but simply came up against one man who is ‘well above the rest’.
Hats off to Liverpool, what an amazing performance. You can only lose a game like that if against you there is a good team but specially a player that is well above the rest.

He’s not wrong, is he? Messi’s star quality on the night was the difference. We had three huge chances, but Sadio Mane, James Milner and Mo Salah couldn’t find the net when they arrived.
Messi on the other hand found the top corner from 35-yards out.
The tie is not over, but it’s going to require one of the best comebacks of all-time to get it done at Anfield.
With a frenzied crowd and a bit of fortune, Liverpool fans know more than anyone that anything is possible.
