Klopp delivers shattering news on Naby Keita which will rock midfielder’s summer

This is horrible news.

Naby Keita will not only miss the rest of Liverpool’s season, but he won’t be able to feature for Guinea in the African Cup of Nations, either.

That’s according to Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who had to deliver the news during his press-conference today ahead of Saturday’s clash with Newcastle.

“It was really unlucky. Bad news. High grade adductor injury. The tendon is ruptured. Will keep him out for at least 2 months. Bad news for us and for Guinea with the Africa Cup of Nations coming up. Not nice,” the boss told reporters at Melwood.

Keita has suffered various injuries this season, but this is his worst. The midfielder limped off v Barcelona in the Champions League after a positive start, following a nasty tackle from Ivan Rakitic which went unpunished.

At least the 24-year-old’s not going to miss a big chunk for Liverpool – although he would have been mighty handy in our Premier League fixtures with Newcastle and Wolves – not to mention the Anfield tie with Barcelona on Tuesday.

In his place, Klopp could potentially use fit again Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who did very well in his cameo against Huddersfield last Friday.

We wouldn’t be averse to this, or the inclusion of Xherdan Shaqiri – although think a trio including Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum is most likely.
