Andy Robertson can break insane PL record against Newcastle tonight

There’s no two ways about it – we need to beat Newcastle at St James’ Park tonight for obvious reasons.

Equally, we need a response from the mid-week disappointment of the Barcelona game. One positive from that Champions League fixture, however, was the vibrant performance of Andy Robertson.

Back in the Premier League, Robbo has 11 league assists to his name already after registering another two in the 5-0 demolition of Huddersfield.

His current tally equals the record that Andy Hinchcliffe achieved in the 1994/95 season.

That means if Robertson can fashion a chance for someone against Newcastle on Saturday night he’ll set an incredible new assists record for a defender in a single campaign!

The Scottish left-back only joined the Reds from Hull two years ago and at £8 million the 25-year-old surely has to be one of the best bits of business the club has ever done.

Hot on his trail, however, Trent Alexander-Arnold is breathing down his neck with nine league assists from right-back. The two are enjoying something of a friendly rivalry as they compete for top assists.

Amazingly, the next nearest defender to the two Reds is Leicester’s Ricardo Pereira on six assists for the season.

The Reds scored 84 goals last season, which is actually what we’re on now, so it’s almost certain we’ll surpass that figure. A key part of our prowess going forward has been Robertson swinging in pinpoint crosses from the left.

Of course, Robertson’s also been a big reason why we’ve kept a ridiculous 20 clean sheets this campaign.
