Brewster is ‘”ready” to make his debut against Barça claims Klopp

Jürgen Klopp has claimed that young Rhian Brewster is ready to play at Anfield in our second leg Champions League meeting with Barcelona.

With Mohamed Salah unavailable due to a concussion sustained at Newcastle, and with Roberto Firmino ruled out with muscle injury, the 19-year-old could find himself on the pitch at some point.

“He’s ready. There is a big chance. It’s nearly sure. It’s guaranteed,” Klopp said.

“The situations are always like this. In an ideal world, in a season you always have much more players than you can involve in a squad.

“When you’re on the bench, you are an option to play.”

We’ve got to overturn a 3-0 result from last week’s cruel first leg at Camp Nou to make it nine European Cup finals. We’re staring down the jaws of a semi-final do-or-die game needing to score four goals to go through.

Brewster was in the matchday squad as an used substitute against Crystal Palace back in April 2017, so this will only be the second time he is named in one.

He has demonstrated maturity beyond his years as he has struggled with injuries to finally recover his fitness and intensity.

“Rhian has been in just outstanding shape for the last three or four weeks, but the other players were there as well.

“It’s just good so now it’s really nice in a difficult situation that we can give him that spot in the squad and have him there to bring on as a striker.”

It’s more than a difficult situation. We face the Herculean task of putting four past Barcelona without reply at Anfield, and that without Salah and Firmino. Of course, it’s not impossible and Klopp is no stranger to our legendary comebacks.

With Sadio Mané and perhaps late-goal hero Divock Origi, Brewster has the opportunity to possibly, hopefully, write his name in Liverpool folklore tonight.
