Pochettino is a class-act who deserves CL Final and has done football proud

“Allow me to relax a little bit, there is going to be time to talk about Liverpool,” Mauricio Pochettino said, following Tottenham’s epic comeback win over Ajax.

“I want to congratulate Jurgen Klopp and all the players and Liverpool, because I think they were amazing.

“We enjoyed a lot, watching the tie against Barcelona, they are heroes too and of course it is going to be an amazing final between two English teams that for sure we are going to enjoy.”

In 21 days’ time, Liverpool will face Pochettino’s Spurs in Madrid, with England, Europe and the World watching.

Like Liverpool, Spurs have defied odds to progress to the Champions League Final. They beat Manchester City over two-legs and then got past an Ajax side that had downed Real Madrid and Juventus with ease.

Their last minute winner in Amsterdam was a testament to the character Pochettino has instilled in his side and a mirror to what Jurgen Klopp has done at Anfield.

We cannot lie: we’d have preferred to face Ajax in the Final. Not just because we think it would have been an easier game, but also a more romantic tie with less potential nastiness in the buildup/aftermath.

But Spurs and Pochettino deserve to have qualified and we congratulate them for it.

Obviously we’re utterly desperate to ruin the Argentine’s story and hope the likes of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Virgil van Dijk and everyone else in glorious red can avenge our defeat in Kiev last year at his expense.

The respect we have for him and his side though is huge. Let’s hope this is shared by both sets of fans, both at home and in Madrid, as the game draws closer.

The anxiety is going to border on the unbearable, but let’s do our best to follow in both managers’ footsteps and make it a night to remember for all the right reasons.
