Ajax reportedly line up replacement for potential Reds targets

Ajax are this morning being linked with a move for PSV forward Steven Bergwijn – which might mean that exciting attacking midfielder Hakim Ziyech or winger David Neres could be on the move.

According to De Telegraaf, Bergwijn’s agent has confirmed that Ajax are interested in him and want to get a deal over the line. That could pave the way for a couple of their stars to move on after excelling in the Champions League this season.

Ziyech would be the most likely to move on, with the Mirror reporting earlier in the season that he has a £25 million release clause – a bargain in the current climate.

Following the Reds’ failed move for Nabil Fekir last summer, it is clear that Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards were targeting a number 10, and so it would be no shock if they went in for the Ajax man at that price this transfer window.

Neres is another who has been linked with a move to the Reds having scored 12 times and assisted 15 this season across all competitions.

The Brazilian-born former Sao Paolo man could be a perfect addition as back-up to the Reds first-choice front three.

No doubt many Ajax stars will be moving on this summer – and the Reds might well be in for a couple of them. As well as Ziyech and Neres, we’d like to see a move for Matthijs de Ligt, although he will probably end up at Barcelona.

Whoever the Reds end up going for, Edwards’ record suggests he’ll get it right.
