Reds awards night for 2018-19 will not be taking place

Liverpool will not hold an end-of-season awards night this year because the player’s schedule will not permit it, according to the Liverpool ECHO.

In the last couple of seasons, the event has been held in Anfield’s Main Stand, but this year there simply isn’t time.

Full focus was on beating Wolves at the weekend, which was successfully navigated, and now the players are having some time off before preparations for Madrid begin.

It can’t take place after the final against Tottenham because many of the players will then be off on international duty.

Jordan Henderson, Virgil van Dijk and Gini Wijnaldum are among those who are likely to be jetting off to the UEFA Nations League in Portugal, which takes place just a few days after the Champions League final.

Most of the players seem to enjoy the awards night, so it’s a shame to see it cancelled. You would think there would be a slot somewhere in the few weeks that the Reds will have off – but no one will mind at all if the Champions League is won!

Van Dijk has already won the PFA Player of the Year award, and he, along with Mo Salah and Sadio Mane, is among the current favourites to win the Ballon d’Or for 2019.
