Liverpool should buy Griezmann to work in tandem with Firmino, says pundit

It looks for all the world like Antoine Griezmann will sign for Barcelona this summer, after announcing last night he was leaving Atletico Madrid.

Sky Sports suggest Barca will pay the £108m release-clause for the French World Cup winner, which is a steep price for a 28-year-old.

ESPN pundit Craig Burley touted Liverpool as a potential alternative – citing a potential dream partnership with Roberto Firmino in his reasoning.

“I actually think that Liverpool would be a great place for Griezmann to go this summer,” he told ESPN, cited in the Express.

“Liverpool are very much a team on the up at the moment and he could aid Roberto Firmino who also likes to drop deep.”

While the thought of Griezmann dovetailing with Bobby, with Sadio Mane and Mo Salah on the flanks, is jaw-dropping – it’s not going to happen!

Liverpool wouldn’t spend that money on an attacker who’ll be thirty in less than two years, in short – and we have no issue with that.

We do need another attacker to replace the likely outgoing Daniel Sturridge, but think it’ll be a younger, versatile, cheaper option, instead.

Interestingly, Barca buying Griezmann may in turn trigger the sale of Coutinho. We’re not sure where the Brazilian will end up, but can see one of our Premier League rivals spending the money if we decide against it.
