LFC keep “watching brief” on Ajax star in search for versatile attacker – Echo

Ian Doyle, over at the Echo, is reporting the Reds are one of several clubs keeping a “watching brief” on sought-after Ajax winger, Hakim Ziyech, after the club have admitted he will leave this summer.

It should be noted that Ian Doyle himself as confirmed a “watching brief” does not mean the Reds have 100% confirmed their interest.

The 26-year-old Morocco international was awarded player of the year at Ajax, after finding the net 21 times and also registering a remarkable 24 assists across all competitions this campaign.

Ziyech is thought to have a £25 million release clause in his contract that a host of suitors could be tempted to activate this summer.

Now, Ajax’s sporting director, Marc Overmars, has alerted Ziyech’s admirers that the club will permit one of team’s brightest stars to be plucked from Amsterdam if the deal is right.

“He leaves when a top club comes. He is in focus because of his achievements in the Champions League.

“Many big clubs are buzzing around him.

“We promised Hakim (that we would) agree to a good transfer.”

Winning the domestic double and sheer moments away from meeting us in Madrid, this Ajax side have won adoration across the football world. However, they are in danger of being dismantled more aggressively than the Monaco team that won Ligue 1 in the 2016-17 season.

Klopp is unlikely to dig deep into his pockets for transfers this summer. Although at £25 million and in need of at least some reinforcement, he could be a serious option as the Reds have apparently watched Ziyech as well as a selection of possible alternatives this season.

Echo reporter Doyle also claims, “Manchester United, Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have all also been linked with the right-winger, with suggestions Bayern are front-runners for his signature.”

The only snag could be that, at a possible £25 million, some of these clubs might see him as we see him – a very capable option but not necessarily starter.

But, since he wants to leave Ajax, he might not mind trading minutes for the opportunity to play in the Champions League and take his game to the next level – hopefully at Anfield!
