Guinea boss makes huge claim about Keita’s fitness ahead of the Champions League final

Despite Liverpool’s medical staff believing Naby Keita could be set for a couple of months out injured, Guinea boss Paul Put says he thinks the midfielder could be back as soon as the Champions League final in under a fortnight.

It seems Guinea are desperate to get Keita back for the Africa Cup of Nations which starts on June 21, but that is massively optimistic.

When playing against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final, Keita ruptured his adductor tendon and was thought to be sidelined for around eight weeks. It’s not even been half that time yet.

According to Foot 224, Put said: “He consulted his doctor in Switzerland, as I said at the beginning. He is in treatment with his doctor. He has started on the bike there [in Liverpool] and it is said that he will maybe in two weeks resume with the squad.

“It is even possible that he is in the squad for the Champions League final if what I have been told is true. We will see.”

It still seems very unlikely that Jurgen Klopp will be able to select Keita for the final in Madrid against Tottenham, but you never know.

We think Put’s comments might be more in hope than expectation – he’s desperate to have his star man available, and is refusing to believe the Reds’ medical staff for the time being.
