Karius set to stay at Besiktas after recent good form revives career

Loris Karius has claimed he is content to remain at Beşiktaş after finally finding form and redemption in the Turkish Süper Lig.

After having a bit of an early season wobble with the Istanbul side, being castigated by Beşiktaş boss Şenol Güneş back in March, and being forced to approach FIFA over unpaid wages, the German ‘keeper now seems much more settled in Turkey.

“I think that if all parties are happy and satisfied, I will continue (here),” Karius revealed in quotes reported by the Echo. “My contract with Besiktas continues,” he added.

After losing 2-1 to Trabzonspor on Saturday, the 25-year-old said, “This is a team game, I must not forget this, I am disappointed.

Beşiktaş are currently third in the table – with one game left to go, a win will secure their position in the standings, but they won’t be able to catch cross-city rivals Galatasaray in pole position.

Karius is now halfway through his two-year loan deal after they paid initial £2.25million fee to take him to Istanbul. If specfic criteria are met, Beşiktaş will have to buy the German for £7.25million in the summer of 2020 and we’ll benefit from a 20% sell on clause.

After Karius’ Champions League final nightmare last season, we bought a world-class upgrade in Alisson. After ridiculously impressive league campaign – where he won the Golden Glove – we’re now in the final again thanks to the Brazilian!
