Mirror’s Football Chief makes Memphis Depay to LFC claim

Liverpool are considering going in for Memphis Depay this summer, writes Simon Mullock in the Mirror.

The journalist says we’ve been ‘watching’ the Dutchman and have been impressed by his form for both Lyon and Netherlands.

According to the report, Depay is rated at £50m – but Mullock oddly suggests that we want to sign the 25-year-old incase Sadio Mane eventually departs for Real Madrid.

That’s 100% not going to happen, which is not necessarily conveyed by the tone of the Mirror story.

For this reason, we’re taking it with a pinch of salt – although do recognise that Depay will have been one of the attackers we’ll have scouted.

Yesterday, James Pearce of the Echo confirmed a versatile attacker will be targeted ahead of the new season – but it doesn’t seem like any of the reporters close to the club have a real idea who’ll we go for.

Our choice has been Nicolas Pepe – as outlined here – but we actually have a feeling that if Rhian Brewster shines in pre-season, Jurgen Klopp won’t bring in anybody.
