Gracious Christian Benteke names the best manager he’s ever worked with

Christian Benteke says that he feels no anger towards Jurgen Klopp for wanting to sell him – instead, naming the German as the best manager he has ever worked under.

Benteke was never a good fit for the Reds but he did have his moments. Who could forget that stunning overhead kick he scored against Manchester United at Old Trafford?

Getting back the £32 million that was paid for him, though, was always going to be too good an offer to turn down.

Via Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur, Benteke said to media in his homeland: “Klopp is still the best manager I worked with, although I didn’t play a lot. He wanted fast players up front. I understood his decision.”

Benteke has had a tough couple of seasons with Crystal Palace, and has been linked with a move to China, but also said that he wants to continue to play in the Premier League next year.

It never quite worked for him at Liverpool, but he does clearly have quality when he’s on form and in a team that plays to his strengths.

He seems to be a player that needs to be full of confidence to perform anywhere near his best, but it’s unfortunately been a long time since that was the case.
