Mane makes honest admission about Klopp and Barcelona

There wouldn’t have been an overwhelming amount of Liverpool fans that felt confident after the Reds’ 3-0 loss at the Camp Nou.

Although, at Anfield, on the day of the second leg it was different. Something was in the air. We believed. It wasn’t an expectation – more of an overblown sense of hope and pride.

As it turns out, Jurgen Klopp was in a similar mind frame to the fans. Sadio Mane has spoken out since our incredible 4-0 battering of the Catalan giants, and he’s been talking about the German boss.

Before the game [against Barca], I had never seen the boss like that,” the star told the Mirror. “Klopp encouraged us but, honestly, not even he believed it.

He is exceptional, he makes you want to fight for him and give everything for him.

It’d be unwise to expect to batter Barcelona, but, after the performance the lads put in at the red-hot cauldron that is Anfield, I think it’ll be hard to tell the Reds ‘we can’t do this’.

The fans have seen it all over the years. Olympiakos. Istanbul. West Ham. Dortmund. This one was different, we aren’t talking about players from the past like Steven Gerrard, we’re talking about our current crop.

Klopp appears to have completed his jigsaw now, and it’s time to reap the benefits. He’s done what he told us on his very first day at the club – he’s turned us into believers again.

There is certainly a belief among the squad that Madrid will be the venue of a special day in the club’s history. “The final is a one-off game, it will be different from the league, you cannot hide, I think we are favourites,” Mane added.

Normally I’d wince at comments like that ahead of massive games, but I just don’t think anything like that affects these lads – they’re monstrous.
