Gini Wijnaldum has thanked Reds fans for their support this season en route to the Champions League final, claiming the semi-final win over Barcelona would not have been possible without Anfield.

Speaking to preview the final against Tottenham, Wijnaldum spoke glowingly about Reds fans – and also expressed his disappointment on behalf of those unable to get tickets for the game in Madrid.

Via Goal.com’s Neil Jones, he said: “The message to fans? Thank you for your support! They make it possible to win the game at Anfield 4-0 [in the semi-final]. During the whole season, they support us quite good! It’s a compliment to the fans.

“To those who don’t have a ticket, I feel sorry. Everyone deserves to be there.”

There will be millions of fans watching on all over the world who would have loved to have been at the game, but the most important thing is that the players win the match and secure a sixth European Cup.

That would cap a remarkable season in the best possible way, and it would definitely be a deserved ending to a campaign which has already offered so much.

Wijnaldum will be hoping he has done enough to start the match, with the only real question mark in terms of the team selection over whether it will be him or James Milner alongside Fabinho and Jordan Henderson.
