How Loris Karius showed his class following Reds’ Champions League semi-final progression

Loris Karius sent a message of congratulations to Jurgen Klopp and Reds goalkeeping coach John Achterberg following the Champions League semi-final victory over Barcelona, it has been revealed.

Karius, who has been on loan at Besiktas this season, and will stay there for at least another year, must be looking back and thinking about what might have been with him at Anfield, but he showed his class with a message to his former coaches.

Achterberg told The Times: “Loris texted Jurgen and myself when we reached the final. He said he was happy for us and hopes we now win. I think that says a lot about him.

“He is a good guy. He is not a bad goalkeeper, but the situation was not easy for him. It was the best solution for him to go and play, rebuild his confidence, and then enjoy his football again.”

Karius will probably never play another minute for the club, but it’s good to hear he still keeps in touch with Klopp. He seems to be doing a decent job in Turkey after a rough patch in the middle of the season, as well, which is good for him.

He’ll be watching on as the Reds take on Spurs on Saturday night – hopefully with a different end result to last year’s final.
