Klopp’s reaction to missing out on the Premier League title was brilliant

Jurgen Klopp says he could not be prouder of his team after the Reds accumulated a record points total but still missed out on the Premier League title.

The German is often animated on the touchline, but the reality is the man is much calmer in normal life.

There is nothing that can be done about the exceptional achievements of Manchester City this season, so rather than become frustrated at what he could not influence, Klopp moved on quickly – just like the Reds fans inside Anfield on the final day of the league campaign.

In an exceptional interview with Jonathan Liew of the Independent, Klopp explained: “You get 97 points, and [slams fist on the table] City scores a goal against Leicester City. Psssshhtt.

“If that happens… come on. What can you do? You cannot hope that some other people fail. We did our best, 97 points is brilliant, done. The season was brilliant.”

It, of course, helps that the Reds have a Champions League final to focus on. Whatever happens on Saturday night, the club will continue to try and improve next season.

Capping a sensational campaign with the biggest trophy in club football, though, would be more than just rewards for what Klopp has achieved with this group of players.

One of Klopp or Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino will get to shut up the critics who point to a lack of silverware despite the incredible progress of both clubs – fingers crossed, it’s former.
