Gerrard: Why I’m jealous of Liverpool’s current team

Our legendary former captain Steven Gerrard has explained how he wishes he got the chance to play under current boss Jurgen Klopp.

The Champions League winning midfielder played under Gerard Houllier, Rafa Benitez, Roy Hodgson, Sir Kenny Dalglish and Brendan Rodgers during his epic tenure – but departed in 2015 before Klopp got the job.

By the time the German had been appointed, Gerrard was in the MLS with LA Galaxy – after deciding his legs had finally got the better of him.

Gerrard though has lauded Klopp and explained how even after everything he achieved, his mentor inspires him to get back on the football field!

“I’ve had many sit-downs with him. He’s an open book – he invites me into his office – I’m incredibly lucky and blessed I do get that invite,” the former Reds skipper told a channel 4 documentary, cited in the Mirror.

“And the thing I take away is: Imagine playing for him. I wasn’t lucky enough to play for Jurgen Klopp. Probably too old. Just missed the boat if you like. But, I’m almost jealous of the Liverpool players.

“I come out of his office after a sit-down, and when I walk out of the training ground, I actually want to walk back in and sit with him. I want to put a kit on and play for them, and run for them and run hard. He’s infectious, he inspires you.”

It’s crazy imagining what a prime Gerrard could do in this current Liverpool team – in one of the box-to-box roles either side of Fabinho – but that’s by the by!

He cemented his legendary status in 2005, and now it’s for the current roster to make their destiny.

We face Spurs in Saturday’s Champions League Final in two days’ time!
