Danny Murphy reckons Liverpool will go in for Youri Tielemans this summer and snatch the Belgian from Leicester.
The 22-year-old has shone on loan at the King Power, especially since our former manager Brendan Rodgers took the reigns.
He was on loan from AS Monaco, but the assumption is that he’ll be available to buy should a big bid come in from a Premier League club.
Former LFC midfielder Murphy thinks Tielemans could be a suitable replacement for James Milner in Jurgen Klopp’s engine room.
“The big clubs are always looking at what is next and where to improve,” Murphy told William Hill. “Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be back which is a big plus, he will practically be like a new signing. Maybe they will let Milner go and one other. Then coming in, Tielemans has had a good season at Leicester, he can open a team up and I am sure Liverpool would love a player like that.”
“You have to be careful, obviously supporters always want new signings in, but you can’t bring in too many and upset the dynamic. It is the manager’s biggest problem as he doesn’t want to upset too many players. Signings would be good, but they don’t need too much to be honest. If they were to win the Champions League, it makes them a lot more attractive.”
We do actually rate Tielemans and have been impressed with his performances in England, but there isn’t really space for him.
Fabinho is going to anchor the side next season – that much is pretty much guaranteed – so assuming Klopp will keep his 4-3-3 formation – there’s two more midfield roles available.
And in Gini Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Milner himself – we have five players competing for them.
That’s before mentioning Adam Lallana or Marko Grujic!
We simply don’t need a new player in that position.
