Pochettino on his admiration for one Liverpool man ahead of UCL final

Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur is up against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in the Champions League final this Saturday in Madrid.

The Argentine manager has a great deal of respect for his opposite number. “I respect him a lot and he’s been a bit unlucky. He’s been in three finals and sometimes it’s about the circumstances you arrive in,” he told football.london.

To arrive in three finals is congratulations and I admire him a lot.”

Klopp and Poch have many similarities; they both climbed their way from domestic football in their homelands – with the Liverpool boss starting with Mainz and working his way into successes with Borussia Dortmund.

The Spurs man began his career with Newell’s Old Boys in Argentina, before moving into management with La Liga club Espanyol – the last team he played for professionally.

Spurs and Liverpool haven’t had the best of luck with silverware in recent years; with the Reds reaching three European finals in as many years and hopefully breaking their duck tonight.

But only one team can win, and hopefully for our sakes it’s Liverpool, the Reds are the favourites going into the Madrid final, but Klopp will be certain not to underestimate Tottenham.

In the previous rounds of the tournament, Spurs dumped out Manchester City and had their own miracle come-back against Ajax – number six isn’t home and dry yet.
