Astonishing role Benfica B friendly played in Reds’ CL final victory

Some stunning news has come out of Portugal regarding the friendly we played against Benfica B when out in Marbella for our pre-Champions League training camp.

It was thought that it was merely a way for Jürgen Klopp and Pep Lijnders to get the Reds some match fitness ahead of the final in Madrid, but apparently that is not the case.

Thanks to some exceptional journalism from Tiago Estêvão on Twitter – who has transated Benfica B boss Renato Paiva’s original Portuguese quotes in A Bola – it appears that the match had much more considerable tactical importance for the Reds.

As you can see, the 3-0 win over Benfica B was in fact an ingenious way for Klopp to replicate the tactics and match conditions he was expecting to face against Tottenham Hotspur in the final.

This demonstrates the massively commendable way both Klopp and Lijnders prepare for games.

Some fans were worried when Zeljko “The Brain” Buvac left the club in 2018, but clearly we’ve got it covered.

Sometimes it’s easy to forget that, behind all the humour and charisma, our boss is one of the most intelligent and hard-working managers in football.

Together with Pep Lijnders and Peter Krawietz, Klopp seemingly masterminded the victory over Spurs.

Its thanks to their dedication, enterprise, and diligence that we were able to celebrate winning No.6 long into the night and beyond!
