Champions League cult hero Origi to have future confirmed this summer – Mirror

Build the man a statue! Divock Origi had three shots in the Champions League, scored from three of them, destroyed Barcelona, and sealed the Champions League final.

Surely that’s enough to give the Belgian a new contract?! Well, according to David Maddock in The Daily Mirror, it looks like it will be.

In comments reported via the Mirror, post-final Origi claimed: “There’s an offer for a new contract on the table.

“We will see after the international games, but I think there will be talks with the club.”

At 24-years-old, our cult icon could follow in line with what Maddock suggests is eager club policy: sign up exciting young players up to at least 2023.

He’s only got a year left on his contract, so it would be good to get sorted as soon as possible.

A forgotten man on loan at Wolfsburg last season, Origi has not only forced his way back into Jürgen Klopp’s thoughts, he’s probably made the German dream about his wildcard option.

He decided against another temporary departure from Anfield, determined to fight for a place in the team despite minutes looking like they would be hard to come by.

But he got his chance and made those minutes count! It’s that attitude that will have impressed Klopp.

Although its his European record that’s unbelievable, it all started with the Everton goal and let’s not forget that other last-gasp effort against Newcastle.

Incredibly, behind Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, and Bobby Firmino (27, 26, and 16 respectively), Big Div joines James Milner and finishes the season as our joint-fourth top scorer on seven goals!

The Reds will likely want to sit down and get Origi’s future sorted before moving onto any other summer business, but he’s done enough to convince the club to keep him and extend his deal.
