Reds linked with move for England U21 star

Liverpool are in the hunt for Middlesbrough’s Dael Fry according to reports in the Hartlepool Mail, with Jurgen Klopp keen to bring in the England U21 defender who turns 22 in August.

The Reds have Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren, so are well stocked in that area, but Fry has impressed in the Championship, making 34 appearances last season, and would be much cheaper than the likes of Matthijs de Ligt, who have also been linked with the Reds.

No doubt the Boro man would jump at the chance to join the European Champions, but it would make sense to go all out for a world-beater if the Reds are to bring someone in, especially at centre-back.

The Reds have been linked with Fry in the past, so have probably been keeping tabs on him, but he would surely want guaranteed game time at a crucial age for development, which would not be forthcoming.

It would take a brilliant player to improve on the current squad – and whether Fry fits the bill seems improbable. There are certainly bigger priorities for the Reds this summer.
