Virgil van Dijk offers transfer verdict on Netherlands teammate De Ligt

Virgil van Dijk has been speaking about the potential transfer of his Dutch teammate Matthijs de Ligt, but has given little away.

The 19-year-old Ajax captain, who scored against Tottenham in the Champions League semi-finals, is almost certain to leave the Netherlands this summer, but it is unclear as of yet where his destination will be.

Van Dijk said, via the Daily Mirror: “I think Matthijs is a fantastic player and any decision he makes will be the right one for him.”

Barcelona remain the most likely destination for De Ligt, although it is nice that the Reds are in the equation. If Jurgen Klopp and co are seriously interested in him, then we have every chance.

Not only is Van Dijk his international partner, but the Reds are the European Champions, and that will not have gone unnoticed by any player in the world with even a sniff of joining us.

Klopp might feel that he has enough options at centre-back available at his disposal, but De Ligt would certainly be a decent addition.
