What Henderson said to Klopp & Milner before CL Trophy lift proves his utter class

Jordan Henderson is a Champions League winning captain.

That’s something we’re never going to get bored of saying, in all honesty.

The Englishman was instrumental in our run to Madrid and put in a solid performance v Spurs when it mattered.

Lifting the trophy was something utterly deserved for Henderson, considering the stick he’s got from his own supporters over the past eight years.

He’s always been a far better player than given credit for – but also a far better person.

According to the excellent Melissa Reddy, writing for her new publication ESPN, Henderson asked James Milner and Jurgen Klopp to lift the trophy with him.

The vice-captain and manager refused, though – insisting Hendo did it all on his own.

“As Liverpool walked onto the podium to celebrate their first trophy under Klopp and the first with Henderson as captain, he asked the manager and James Milner to do the honours of holding “Big Ears” aloft with him. Both immediately declined as they wanted Henderson to be at the forefront alone,” she wrote.

The fact Hendo didn’t want to do it alone sums up his humility, but the fact Klopp and Milner wouldn’t shows how highly the skipper is rated amongst his colleagues.

Whatever accusations are thrown at Henderson from now until the end of his career, he’ll always have the Champions League victory to throw back at them – not that he needs to listen to keyboard warriors and England fans anyway.

Hendo will continue to play a key role next season, although he’ll have plenty of competition for places – with Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain set to return and fight for minutes in the box-to-box roles.

We’re sure he’ll relish it.
