Big Oxlade-Chamberlain news broken by Sky Sports presenter

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is the latest in a long line of Liverpool players to be awarded a contract extension.

The midfielder barely kicked a ball for us during the 2018/19 season due to the severity of the injury he was recovering from – picked up at the back end of the previous campaign – but he’s now fully fit and will play a big part of the summer friendlies ahead of 2019/20.

Sky Sports journalist Kevah Solhekol says that the club have offered a 12-month extension as a sign of faith in Ox as a long-term option – with the midfielder looking likely to sign.

This is fairly unexpected news in all honesty – but fair play to Liverpool for making such a gesture to someone Jurgen Klopp has genuine faith in.

It wasn’t the right time to get Ox involved at the back end of the season just gone – the games were simply too important for him to regain sharpness – so we’re perfectly happy with him entering next term with his tail up instead.

Hopefully, he’ll provide a real option as a dynamic, dribbling no.8 – likely to the right of Fabinho – and offer a more attacking outlet in that role than Jordan Henderson.

Obviously it’s about options, and the skipper will not become obsolete, or vice-versa.

The key is that Ox simply stays fit, has no injury recurrences and becomes confident in his own ability again – just as he was before that horrible Anfield incident.
