Serie A giants turn their attention to Liverpool defender

After the season we’ve had, it’s hardly a surprise that other clubs around Europe looking for success would take an interest in Liverpool players.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, AC Milan are interested in signing experienced centre back Dejan Lovren. The Croatian international has been at Anfield since his 2014 switch from Southampton under Brendan Rodgers.

Lovren has enjoyed mixed fortunes at Liverpool – his match-winning header against Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League will live long in the memory, but being taken off 30 minutes into a game as he was having a shocker will be one he’ll hope we’ll forget.

Our number six joined the club with a stellar reputation, having built a formidable partnership with Jose Fote at Saints, but hasn’t really lived up to it.

The Telegraph website included Lovren in a feature about the 2014/15 Premier League’s 20 worst signings which remarked on the number of his errors that resulted in opposition goals.

That being said, Jurgen Klopp is unlikely to want to sell the experienced defender, but if the right offer comes in then I expect the boss to cut his losses and move him on.

With Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all ahead of him in the pecking order, the manager may view it as an opportunity to generate some wealth and promote a youngster.
