Why pundit is pushing Liverpool man to Arsenal

Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has boldly told ESPN that having seen Alberto Moreno plenty, he hopes the Spaniard signs for Arsenal…

Our left-back, who has been with the club since 2014 after we bought him from Sevilla, is out of contract this summer and will depart on a Bosman.

Moreno has been tenuously linked to Arsenal, who are looking for another option in that position for the 2019/20 campaign, but Nicol scoffed at the possibility.

“As a Liverpool fan, I hope so!” he said.

“Quite honestly, Moreno can’t defend and the whole reason Liverpool brought in Robertson is so they could have someone who can actually defend.

“(Emery) must know Moreno can’t defend. Is he any better defensively than (Nacho) Monreal? No, he’s not.”

We actually think Moreno began to show improvements under Jurgen Klopp at the back end of 2017, but then an injury meant Andy Robertson won a spot in the side and the Scot has obviously not looked back since.

Part of us thinks Moreno is improved and matured – but we suppose we’ll find out from afar – with the defender set to join a European club in the next few months.

For Liverpool, our job is to replace him and acquire an adequate backup for Robbo, who is obviously first-choice and will remain so both short and long-term.

There’s been no word as to who that could be yet, but the player needs to be young, quick, happy on the ball – but equally as importantly – happy on the bench!

Acquiring that kind of left-back won’t be easy, but that’s a job for Michael Edwards and co.
